To me, what makes a good performance is when the actor or actress convinces you that their character is real; that in fact that character is them. When you start to develop emotions towards that character, whether it be admiration, distain, etc., then that actor did a good job.

These are films that I find very inspiring, for different reasons. The inspiration they give me comes in different emotions for each film, but they all [pathetically, maybe] convince me, for just a little while, that I can actually do something in the world....


Below, the film is listed, along with the name of the Director, who made the film what it is. Below that is why I feel the film is inspiring.

1. Forrest Gump
   Robert Zemeckis
   "Forrest Gump does everything, despite being mentally handicapped. Sure, it's fiction, but watching the world turn through the eyes of Forrest helps me see everything in a different perspective, where anything is achievable if I believe it to be so."

   Boaz Yakin/Jerry Bruckheimer [PRODUCER]
   "This movie is mainly about overcoming racism. It is also about reaching your potential. I found that this film inspired me to believe that with my friends, I could do something amazing, and the way the team overcame the obstacles of racism and other prejudices, that victory is worth the trouble."
   
   
   
3. Rocky
   John G. Avildsen
   "Ask anyone the universal under-dog film, and they will [or should, especially if they're American] tell you it's Rocky. This isn't a film about winning. This is a film about proving something to yourself and yourself only. The setting in which Rocky gets the chance to fight Apollo, the champ choosing a local small-time Philly boxer for an exhibition match, may make it seem at first to be unimportant. I mean, who cares about an exhibition match? Rocky does, and that's all that matters. He doesn't even want to win. He just wants to 'go the distance'. And he does, reminding me that having a go and giving it all I've got is all that matters."

   "This movie is more about good guys versus bad guys, but it was still a very inspirational movie. The way the team comes together to become the best in the world does the same thing to me that Remember The Titans does, if not as profoundly."

   "This film is about one of the most captivating incidents in recent history that united the whole country. They way they fight like hell and never give up inspires me to keep fighting every day for my dreams. The fact that this was based on a factual event makes it even more dramatic."

   "Like Remember The Titans, this film deals with racism, and is also based on a true story. There is a magic formula for film-making that consists of seeing two very different characters or groups of characters come together to triumph in some way. Even though all the soldiers, black and white, are killed, they scored an unbeatable point against racism by uniting to take a stand against it, and inspiring me to fight my guts out for something I strongly believe in."

   "Another 'true story' film that inspires better than most. This inspiration in this film is derived from the basic plotline; a nobody from nowhere going on to do something great, and the best part is that it drew him together with someone very important to him, which is the ultimate victory."

I really love.... Whatever the heck you call it. My favorite leagues are the English Premier League and Dutch Eredivisie, because the Dutch are producing some of the best young players ever.

My favorite clubs are Arsenal because Dennis Bergkamp played there, Bayern Munich only because Mark van Bommel plays there, and PSV Eindhoven because it was Guus Hiddink's true club and had created some of the best players in the world.

Due to the rediculously long history of football, I only chose players I've seen play, so therefore players from recent history. That's why there's no Johan Cruijff [ORANJE!!], Franz Beckenbauer [GERMANY], Pelé [BRAZIL], Gerd Müller [GERMANY], Deigo Maradona [ARGENTINA], Lev Yashin [SOVIET UNION], Michel Platini [FRANCE], George Best [NORTHERN IRELAND], the list goes on....




So, here's the position key so you know what's what for those of you who don't know what's what.

The formation I use is not common at all. In fact, I've only seen it used twice, by teams that play totaalvoetbal [Dutch for Total Football; look it up], a style of play mastered by Johan Cruijff and is, in my opinion, the best style of play.So that's why I chose this formation.

Oh yeah, and ORANJE is the Dutch word I use for my beloved NEDERLANDS.

The positions of RWM and the whole Defense was hard to select because, for RWM, I can't for whatever reason think of a RWM I really like. Cambiasso comes the closest. He usually plays in a defensive center-midfielder position, but I really wanted him starting. He has amazing ball distribution skills.
For Defense, I just can't think of a defense made up of my favorite players that would work good together. Oh well....
So, as you can see, many of my players are retired or, if you look them up, are very old for football [34 is pushing it]. That just goes to show that I favor beautiful football. Football was at its best in the late 1990's and early 2000's, when most of my players were at their prime.
